AC Dryer In / Out Ports ?

Trying to figure out which is the "in" and which is the "out" port for a new AC receiver / Dryer? for a 1.9 TDI 2002 B5.5. The old one doesn't have any markings on it whereas the new one has the "out" port marked on it, both connection holes are the same size ! Can't find a flow diagram for the AC so no idea which way around it goes - see pic ?
