Emissions question

My 1.9tdi recently passed its biennial Controle Technique but the tester said emissions were on the limit. So do I expect a fail in two years time or is there anything I can do? Will using "super" diesel really make any difference? And a dumb question here because at my age I don't get greasy much these days, but would the state of the air filter make any difference?
