So as stated above its a sad day for me i feel like im cheating but its time to move on, ive owned VW's for nearlly 2 decades now and currently own 2 v dubs, my passat wagon and a 16v 6n2 polo ( work car) , but i cannot carry on driving my pd engine passat any more, i have a family and will not be stranded due to the car not starting , over the years ive had it its given me more grief than any other car ive owned, what with the injector scandel ( ongoing im guessing) boot rust, and the current non starting problem that 3 mechanics and the AA cannot seem to fathum out enough is enough.

So on Saturday the wife and i went to ford and vauhxall to see what deals they had to try and chop the old girl in, well ford you can forget that thats 3 hours of my life ill never get back and their figures are sky high, so went to vauxhall to see if they were any better and to be fair i was pretty impressed. and have part exchanged the passat in ( £1500) snapped their hands off to be fair ( its an 06 2.0 tdi pd engine 142,000 on the clock all 4 alloys laquer lifted ) for a 64 plate Silver 1.8 petrol Insignia SRI 140 psi , I always said when i was a teenager id never own a vauxhall but they have come on leaps and bounds imo, the spec of the car ive purchased its pretty high, sat nav as standard, front & rear sensors heated seats/steering wheel, 18" alloys, sports seats/ sports suspension, bi zenons

I know its not everyones cup of tea but then for the money ive just paid for the insignia i would be hard pushed to get a decent spec passat saloon on an 11 plate and i dont know what problems they have on them, and to be honest im sick of warning lights all the time, 1 of my mechanics who owns his own garage said to me the other day that of all the cars he has in most of them that are VW related are warning light problems, how true that is who knows.
The build quality and gadgets inside the insignia i feel are no less than the current passats and the ammount of refined comfort is something we get used too, the insignia feels good to drive ive moved from diesel to petrol beacause i dont need a diesel any more and diesels are more expensive to run amd buy anyway, time will tell i guess whether ive made the right decision or not but if you dont try you will never know.

Cheers for all the advice over the years without this forum my passat would have cost me a small fortune with the injectors and boot rust issue alone so for that im very grateful

cheers

Simon
