one for the tech heads- turbo/supercharging an engine

right then, straight out with it, can a 1339cc petrol engine (Honda IV-tech- that couldn`t pull a pram through a puddle!) be turbo or supercharged as a straight forward performance upgrade? or ANY engine FTM have a simple bolt on upgrade of one of these?
yes I`ve looked online but I just keep getting snowed under with adds & sites promising the world but actually giving me a headache when I try to delve into the specifics!
can a supercharger or turbocharger be added as a bolt on performance upgrade?
no I`m not expecting a DIY kit, BTW.
