parking sensors

Hi guys,
Anyone know if I can fit 'ordinary' ultrasonic parking sensors to my 2011 20l bluemotion estate??
The reason I ask is that I hear horror stories about the can-bus electrics & non-compatibility with other electrical add-ons, there is a Westfalia/electrics detachable tow-bar already fitted.
I'd like to think that its as simple as 'earth-to ground & supply to rev-light', but I doubt it.
