Passat 2011 number plate light

Hi I received my new led number plate light this morning off fleabay, I could get it to fit no matter what I tried. The buyer suggested not using the resistor but if I didn't use that the connection on my old number plate is different to the connection on the new led light,it's hard to explain but maybe the photos might help,I don't no how to resize the photos
