Oil pressure - STOP ENGINE

Help.......
Last night I had "Low Pressure - Stop Engine" on my dash. I pulled over and switched off.
I was about 1/2 mile from a local garage so maybe hoped I could nurse it that far. So after a couple of minutes I turned the ignition and no oil warning was present. When I turned the engine on the same warning reappeared along with a high pitched intermittent sucking? sound (could be wrong with the description of the sound but definitely a noise that didn't sound good). I obviously turned it off immediately and got breakdown to take it to the garage.

Any comments about what this could be......?
