check brake pad warning

I've been working on brakes today, pads were done and the discs were tatty, so to get the best effect I've swapped out both. While I was working I had the radio on, as I unplugged the first brake pad wires I heard a beep and noticed the brake pad warning notice flash up.
How do I cancel this? Is there a sticky somewhere for these as I'm due a service in around 300 miles... also my mpg readout started reading trip time, I have no idea how...
