Back seat removal

Sorry another question but its kind of related to my flood (Haynes manual is on shopping list for weekend)
How do I remove the rear bench seat from my S plate passat (B5) I need to be able to lift up the carpet and I cant see a way to remove the bench part
Also I noticed on one of the picture threads about removing the pollen filter that the silver passast has like a fan or splines inside the pollen filter. All mine has is a metal rod (spindle maybe) am I missing something ?
