Rear lights leaking water

Only a minor niggle on my Passat estate sport tdi 130 03plate.
Ive had an inch of water on my passenger side rear light all winter, so got time to remove it this weekend to dry it out and reseal, but didn't need to get that far because i noticed the bulb holder didn't fit properly it only clips in on one side.
So have i got a poor quality after market item? The drivers side one clips in fine and that only has condensation in, as appose to water getting in (search said this was common). i thought vw always used hella and theres no sign of a hella stamp on the lens. I won't bother if its a cheap copy because the problem wont go away.
Has anyone else had this, before i fork out for a new one or is there no hella stamp on the genuine ones?
Also, It doesn't look like the easiest thing to remove anyway, will i have to take all the boot trim bits to get to the couple of nuts holding it on?
