Audio advice for the B3 Estate/Variant/Wagen

Post by DucMike »

I'm curious if anyone here has done any kind of stealthy install on a B3v. The p/o of mine had crafted up a tub to fill the spare tire tub as well as the smaller cubby on the right side. Said tub was designed with two 10" subs in mind. Since I don't plan on needing this much bass, I'm considering trimming the tub down & reskinning it to accomodate a single 8" or 10" speaker.

On to the rest of the system. I'll be running a Kenwood KDC-X689 head unit (still my favorite device) into a Kenwood XR-5S amp (80x4 + 350x1). According to the Crutchfield site, I can use 4" highs in the dash, 5 1/4" mids in the doors & have a 4x6 opening in the rear quarter panels. I currently have a component MB Quart set in the front, but I've no idea whats out back. If I'm keeping this install low-key, should I just worry about the front & write off the rears for anything short of fill? I wish the B's were blessed with the same rear door panels that the B4's got, but unless I section down a set of front pockets, I don't see any way to fix that short-coming. Anyone have anything else to add or suggest?
