Electric Problems, got a feeling it will be expensive!!!

Hi all,
The mrs was driving the passat 03 sport and the last 2 days whilst driving the central locking makes the sound that the car has locked itself but the door pins dont go down, then the interior lights come on and won't go off. She also says the button to lock and unlock the doors isn't working.
Could this be a simple faulty switch or something more sinister? Ive read on here that when the locking starts playing up its the plenum chambers filling with water and wrecking the electrics, but my footwells are dry as a bone????
Hoping someone has experienced this before and its a cheap fix???
