Cruise Control Activation

Is there a way to stop the clutch pedal deactivating the cruise control whilst accelerating through the gears with a manual gearbox?
I understand the need for it to deactivate whilst braking etc but its a bit of a pain having to reselect it everytime you change gear when accelerating?
For example, whilst on a motorway where you have slowed down behind traffic and have changed down a gear before resuming your previous speed and therefore changing up a gear back into 6th...
I am sure the demo Passat I had prior to ordering my current SE Estate did this?
