Towbar wiring

Hi all
Looking for some help
Just fitted an aftermarket tow bar to my B7 estate
Fitting the bar was easy enough but the wiring has me stumped
I have opted for an after market single electrics via a bypass relay
The Left and Right indicators work OK but i have issues withe the side lights and brakes
Looking at the wiring and using a multimeter it seems that the side lights and brakes work on the same wire
5volts for the side lights, 10volts for the brake lights
The instructions for the bypass state only to connect one wire to the vehicle but this only gives the side lights with no change in brightness for braking
Anyone help in finding a simplish solution
