Fitting an external sat nav to a B7

Hi
Just joined this forum since I'm 90% certain I will choose a B7 estate (Tdi 140 SE) as my next new car.
I don't really want to lash out on the extra to have an integral sat nav from VW. However, were I to fit an external device (Garmin 1490T I thought) I am wondering if there is a suitable 12v socket into which I can plug it. The spec mentions sockets at rear of centre console and boot only, neither of which is too convenient for my purpose.
Anyone have an experience of fitting an external sat nav??
