Flickering aftermarket HID's

Hi guys,
I remember reading something about this before but cannot find it in the searches. I have fitted an aftermarket HID kit and one or sometimes both of the bulbs flicker like strobes when you switch between dipped beam and full beam.
I have tested the kit and I know it works fine, but for some unknown reason it doesn't seem to work properly in the B6. I have read somewhere before that some settings might have to be changed on vagcom to unable HID's to work?? My Passat didn't come with HID's as standard.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
