Gear/Clutch issue

Hi all, having a bit of an issue with my PhatSat at the moment..
Last friday, i did a little mileage, at this point, second gear was a little awkward to select if going 30ish..
on starting my car, my clutch biting point seemed to be right at the bottom, jerking and stalling me as soon as i lifted the pedal slightly. shortly after, it ran fine, no issues, i tested gear selection and acceleration, checked the biting point too and set off just on clutch with handbreak on, no slipping..
I drove home from london (180 miles) and started experiencing problems at about the 100m marker after turning off my car in a 1hr stand still..
I managed to select gears fine, as soon as i get to Doncaster sliproad and try to change gear, nothing, clutch not disengaging when i depress the pedal. i Limp it home in 2nd gear after selecting gear by turning off the motor.
After a little chat with a few people i know, i was told to check the Master cylinder. i checked, it wasn't feeding fluid through very well so i replaced it (what a illegitimate child to do! i'm sure all germans/VAG mechanics must have small hands)
anyways, we changed it, bled up the system again, fired her up, still nothing! i can put it in gear while turned off, fire it up with pedal to the floor and it'll try pull me. car stalls if i've got handbreak on or sets off if i give it a little juice.. but i can't shift out of gear!
I've been quoted on the Clutch/Flywheel changes, but being a dualmass, we're looking at £625 with a local garage , which blows.. £495 at one near where i live down south, it's just getting the car down here that's now my problem..
With a baby due in 6 weeks and no reasonable cash for 4, i'm starting to panic!! Any clues what it may be other than clutch? usually when the fuckers go, you get slipping or a really high biting point before it goes.. this went from working to not working in the space of 5 hours
