TD wagons

Hi all just looking for some info about td wagons.Originaly i was looking at getting a b5 20vt but as this will be the secound car in the family im slowly changing my mind to a diesel,just to simply make things a bit cheaper.I really like the looks of wagons but can anyone tell me if there are different diesel engines and which would be the best to go for?Usual probs too?I may only have a budget of around £1500.Thanks for any info
