HELP! Front wiper not working on intermittent setting??

Hey guys,
Has anyone had a problem with their front wipers not working on the intermittent setting only? Basically my wipers work as normal in all settings except in the intermittent position (up one notch on the wiper stalk). Once in this position, my wipers sweep only once regardless of the timing switch position and then it won't sweep again! Diagnostics have indicated wiper relay which i have replaced with a brand new genuine item from VW, but still to no avail!
Has anyone else had this problem?
