Premium diesel vs. the normal stuff?

Hi all,
Just wondering what fuels you guys are using particularly with PD 130's.

The Passat will be my first diesel.
Current car is an 05 Cooper S & I've always run that on V-Power where possible, def noticed a difference in feel of the engine & economy when forced on road-trips a few times to use other fuels.

Does a premium diesel fuel offer the same sort of benefits - cleaner engine internals, smother running, better economy or am I stepping into a whole new world with these "tractor engines" & as such need to adjust my thinking?
