Headlights dimming between gear changes

Hello all,
From a cold start-up my headlights tend to dim between gear changes, i can also hear a "clicking noise" during this
dim to bright action, it only lasts a few minutes then the headlights work as they should.
Only front and rear exterior lights seem to be affected,
I upgraded the headlight bulbs to osram silverstar 50% brighter ones months back,
The battery is charging ok, maybe my alternator is trying to tell me something !
reaching fifth gear at 60 mph the headlights will flicker bright before returning to normal, again this "clicking
noise" can be heard,
has any body else experienced this problem ? car has covered 109kmls.
