Central locking pump ? not Control box issue

Any one point me in the right direction as I am a bit confused with my wifes S plate 19.tdi se passat
The remote keyfobs do not operate the central locking anymore and turning the key does not operate the c/ locking (the fobs are still syncronised to the car ). However the alarm still arms and disarms when using the key or fob and the interior lights come on and go off on lock or unlock and indicators flash fine. My electric windows and interior lights all work fine. I checked the control box under the passenger seat and all wires and circuit board seem ok. Also the fact that everything works apart from the c/ locking doors themselves led me to think it must be a c/l motor or pump.
The only noise I get when operate the central locking is the boot release activating. The fuel cap and doors do not work. Now the c/l opens quite fast and clunks noisily - which i thought meant it isnt the vacum / pump type also I looked in the boot off side and cant find a pump so I figured it must be electrical but my control unit under the seat seems fine. So is my car then all elctrical c/l if so where is the motor or is it 1 on each door (if so doubt all 4 would go at once).
Am I looking in the right place for the c/l pump and more importantly where the hell is the petrol cap manual release wire as its getting low on fuel and SWMBO is getting grumpy having to lean over to open the doors to let the kids in.
Any help woudl be greatly appreciated
