LED bulbs recommendation please - or stick with halogen

Morning all

2005 Passat 1.9TDI estate

My stock lights are poor and reading up it seems an LED bulb can be used as opposed to the halogen bulbs for low beam.

Any recommendations for a straight swop bulb so i can still use the back cover and don't need to drill out the carriers to retain then.

I was looking on Friday and couldn't find anything definitive - and typically one of the bulbs went yesterday!!!

Or better to go with a more expensive halogen bulb?

I don't really want to swop the whole headlamp unit or go with a HID conversion.
