What do I need to retrofit Multifunction Steering Wheel?

I fancy retrofitting a multi-function wheel in my B5.5 this year, so just collecting the info and parts required etc.

I understand that I obviously need a wheel and airbag (currently mine has sports wheel fitted) and the required wiring loom part etc. But can they be made to work with aftermarket head units or does it have to be OE head-unit fitted?

I will most likely be getting an auto-elec to set it up, and whilst he's here I will have them set up my cruise control (have an original stalk in my stash of parts just need the wiring part)

So does that cover everything needed?
