Help, clutch gone?

Help, I think my clutch has gone, I drove to my other half's this morning, all was fine, parked car and went out in hers, came back and got in mine to come home and it wont go into gear, if i stop engine and put into gear then start engine with foot on the clutch it lurches forward and pressing the pedal will not make any difference. Just seems very strange that was fine this morning and has then 'suddenly' gone. don't even know what sort of actuation method is employed, is it cable operated or hydraulic? anybody any ideas? car is a 2.0 petrol with 6 speed manual gearbox by the way.
