HELP!! Please advice - our B5 Wagon is eating front tyres?

Post by alpenweiss2 »

We have a 1999 B5 Wagon which is eating front tyres. I had a pair of Uniroyal Rainsports fitted only last September when the cr had covered 163,238 miles. Today we had a blow out/puncture and I discoved the inside edge of the passenger front wheel worn to the wire on the inside edge!!! The car has only covered 9458 miles since then!!

We recently had the car in a British run VW specialist garage here in France (where we live) to have some work done and they replaced a worn suspension arm. They also checked and adjusted the tracking. They said the front tyres were wearing unevenly so I knew we had to replace them I just didn't expect so soon. I have checked the drivers side front tyre and it is also very badly worn on the outside edge (not so much the inner edge).

I am shocked that quality tyres like Uniroyal Rainsports have only lasted under 10,000 miles and are now worn to the point where they are unsafe.

Anyway tomorrow we plan to get to new front tyres fitted (not easy in rual France), but I want to know what could be causing such wear? Where we live it is mountainous and we are constantly driving on very, very windy roads? Could this be the issue? Any thoughts people?
