Windscreen not clearing (possible idiot alert)

Post by Wayne1612 » Sat Dec 09, 2017 1:07 pm

All, I have recently moved from a B6 to a B7 and the windscreen is the worst I've ever experienced in any car.
My B6 used to clear albeit slowly with the aircon on but sadly nothing I do in my B7 has any effect with the single exception of driving fast to get air flowing through the heat and vent system, the only problem is I can't drive fast if I can't see where I'm going.
Please somebody tell me where I'm going wrong. I have tried to upload a pic of my controls so hopefully when I click go you'll be able to see what I'm working with

You shouldnt be driving at all if you cant safely clear your screen ffs!

You need to get a proper fault scan if the car has climatronic controls, and you need to investigate if, and likely where water is getting into the cars interior if youve got regular and serious fogging.

Is the blower fan designed to be silent or should I be able to head audible step ups as the speeds increase and steps back down again. At this stage I don't know whether it's working but completely silent or whether it's not working at all.
Any other B7 owners like to shead a light on how noisy/silent their blower motors are?

Dot they have something like bmw have a final stage resistor "hedgehog" that controls the fan according to the heat.
This went on my bm and i had no fan.

When it's cold, the air con doesn't work, so doesn't have the demisting effect. I used to keep a couple of large silca gel bags in the car which helped. Also, lowering the rear windows a smidge will help to draw the moist air out when you are moving.
2004 V6 TDI gone and replaced with a 2011 TDI Sport DSG which has gone too.

Think its below 3% c the air con is disabled. i used to have a B5.5 passat, it always steamed up in winter when the air con was disabled, but my new B7 is loads better, doesnt steam up 1/2 as much, authough it does help having electricly heated front screen :-)

***PROBLEM NOW FIXED***
I thought I'd post back in here so that the next person can use it for reference or get an idea of prices.
I had an auto electrician out to test the circuit and he identified the blower motor was seized (and probably burnt out the resistor too).
New motor and resistor purchased at £395. The dude told me that as my car has a panoramic sunroof the cost is high due to the system opening the sunroof and letting heat out that way beyond a certain threashold. Good news for people without a sunroof, the cost for you is more in the region of £170 I'm told.
In my case the resistor is a 3" black box that bolts onto the side of the motor. My motor was sold inclusive of the resistor so £395 was for both components.
Hope this helps someone in the future.
