B8 Fuses

Post by Smudge » Sun Sep 10, 2017 5:31 pm

I've hard wired my dashcam in this weekend but found that the handbook only shows what some of the fuses are for - the others are greyed out. I needed a permanent and an ignition feed but don't want to use any circuits related to safety equipment. I've had to use 2 fuses that are not shown in the handbook for now, does anyone know where I can get a full list of the fuse allocation from?

Thanks!

The 12v cig lighter fuse was listed for my B8 and that's what I've used for dash cam. Permanent live could cause issues

I used multimeter to test empty fuse slots

I did this and found the empty 'telephone' fuse appeared to be a perfect 12v ignition feed, but it cut out every time the stop/start killed the engine for more than 5 seconds meaning the dashcam turned off and on again! I've rewired to a different one now but as it's not listed in the book not sure which circuit it is....

If the camera is constantly drawing from the battery surely the voltage will drop too low

Mines plugged into the cigarette lighter for rear passengers on the arm rest, I’ve run the wire through the front edge of the headliner, down the pillar, under the dash and through the centre console.

It comes on with the ignition, stays on when start stop is activated and turn off when I turn the engine off.

The device is controlled by a 'smart' box that regulates the power and cuts off if the battery voltage is too low. Used in my last two vehicles without an issue!

I wired mine in directly to the interior map light, I found that this had a live feed when ignition on. Very tidy install, I just attached the dash cam next to the rear view mirror, and tucked cable behind the headliner. Simple and tidy.

Found these pics I took. I'm no good at soldering, so I found some good connectors. ImageImage
