EGR DELETE

As on most of my previous tdi cars I replaced the egr valve with an Allard pipe. Took it out for a run, turbo doesn't want to come in, and when it did I got to about 80 and it went into limp mode. I blocked off the 2 vac pipes so there shouldn't be any leaks, tickover is normal, any ideas chaps?
