Should a rattle cause this ....

Post by Ben Kenobi »

OK I'm suffering an itch ... seen a doctor it isn't helping ... so ...

I have a '57' plate Passat Estate 3.2 DSG - spent a fortune on it including a £1200 manifold back Cybox exhaust amongst other things.

Problem - there's a stupid rattle that I can't find and it is pushing me into car replacing territory - the rattle isn't present on the driveway, only on the move, it's worse when turning left at speed and sounds like something catching the mud cover under the wing .. except there isn't anything catching on drivetrain or any other place for that matter.

I've replaced bearings, drive shaft, discs, - not much I haven't replaced - and still the stupid rattle is there, it's present when accelerating and decelerating but not so much in the cruise if at all, sometimes it seems to be speed related and other times not. In 30+ years hacking around on cars it has to be the most annoying and frustrating issue I've ever faced.

Not that it matters I'm really fussy over my cars - I like the car - I don't like the rattle.

So should I pursue the rattle or sell it on ....
