HELP! Issue after belt change

Post by rossiepriory »

After an oil change/ Dsg oil change/ fuel filter change and timing belt (water pump) replacement I now have the following issue. The car cuts out and has difficulty starting - shows glow plug pre heating symbol flashing and battery lights.

Mechanic thinks it may be due it being 'half a tooth out' on setting the timing as didn't have a crankshaft locking kit and did it by 'paint marking' something.

Once car starts (eventually) it will go but you have difficulty in restarting it once you stop and switch off - it's like it momentarily catches then dies.

Anyone with any technical knowledge that can diagnose this issue? Battery was disconnected so maybe electrical issue.

Fuel filter apparently looked slightly different from the vw one removed if that helps. Seems strange that it runs once you get it going but then either cuts out when stopped and difficult to restart.

Any assistance gratefully received.
