Passat CC boot latch problem

Post by DuFFmAN »

Hi all, I have a 2010 Passat CC and everything is well except for the boot latch. It's been like it for 3 months since I purchased the car so I suppose it's time to fix it.

The boot opens fine with no problems.

When the boot is closed, all sensors are fine and there are no problems with any error lights.

You will recall the boot is spring loaded (opens fully when you release the latch). This works fully also.

The problem....

When I close the boot in one smooth motion, it doesn't latch and it just bounces off the catch. To close the boot, I have to bring it close to the catch, hold it for a seconds, before closing it fully.

Effectively, I have to bring the boot lid down slower and in doing so, I can hear some form of actuator or mechanism clicking/moving which I believe allows me to close the boot. If I close the boot in a normal quicker fashion, I don't think this mechanism has enough time to move.

If it helps, when I move the boot lid from a third closed, to a two thirds closed position and back again repeatedly, I can hear this mechanism move again.

I have not opened her up yet to investigate but wonder if anyone has had this before and any tips to sort this out?

Thank you and hope you understood the above :) :s
