Woe is me...

Post by Muenchener »

Evening All. Need some help slash advice... Had a breakdown tonight and recovered for 2nd time in a week by AA.

Vehicle in question is a 02 plate 1.8 (petrol) 20 Valve Turbo Sport

First recovery advice was change oil pressure s/w which was done yesterday. Drove a further 37 miles from garage to have same warning which is red light with oil can and the word STOP plus the audible alarm. No problem complying with that one... The only other message, again in red, has been turn off motor now.

At the first breakdown, on the 24th, I topped up the oil suspecting it was just low on oil but warning light returned within 2 miles of setting off. When idle; the warning light goes off but will come back on when run in neutral and just turning the engine over for roughly 10 mins. No excessive clattering or "graunching" noise coming from engine.

Given the above and having had the oil pressure s/w changed; what's the problem likely to be now? AA guy now suggests component failure on the PCB or blockage in oil system as problem with warning is possible associated with above 2,000 r.p.m.

Appreciate your thoughts and, likely cost to rectify. Was only thinking last week to trade in for newer...
