06 2.0 tdi sport ignition starting problems

hi i have just bought a 06 2.0 tdi passat sport which seems to have a problem with the key fob or ignition

when i attempt to start it i get a message
steering lock malfunction or fault if this message shows, the engine turns over but won't fire up

i am sure im not alone with this problem any input would be welcome
