Steamy windows

Post by soops »

Had this problem for about 5 months. the front screen fogs up. Doesn't feel damp to the touch, looks greasy and if you use a towel and a lot of elbow grease it clears, but returns within 10-20 minutes.
There has always been the odd leak, not from the matrix but before the plenums were sorted sometimes when putting it through a car wash you could see water trickling onto the mats from behind the glovebox.
I'm sure I read something on here about recirculating flaps getting stuck - I'm wondering if this could be the cause as I don't seem to be using any water and I seem to remember that when I first noticed the screen fogging corresponded with not getting the usual "thump" when switching from open to recirculation - it had always done that but there is no longer a noise. Have tried taking the pollen filter out and manually opening and closing the flap - can't do a full closure (or is it an open?) but can do the other way. Doesn't make the slightest bit of difference.
Is the flap electrical (ie does it have a motor to open and close it and if so, where do I find it and how to replace?)
I have no air con as the belt has been removed (seized condenser unit I think was the reason), so can't clear it that way.
Any ideas guys?
Soops.
