b3 door hinges, help needed

hi all, ive been tipping away at my passat whenever i can lately and ive come to a deadend with the door hinges,
the bottom drivers door hinge has loads of play in and after taking out the 5mm bolt holding the pin in place and the 17mm bolt holding onto the door but the pin wont budge.
im wondering am i missing somthing?? the piece where the pin sits into seems to be welded to the body so thats a no go area(for the moment),
do i just have to hit it harder or is there a trick out there to sort this out?

on another note ive noticed the steering rack is leaking atf from one of the gaitors, is this a common thing with these??
ive a line on two b3's so a rack wont be a problem but shud i expect to happen again?
