Electric handbrake failure

Hi all

I have started to get the hand brake orange warning light with a chime sounding when the ignition is turned on.

I have heard that the switches on this are prone to failure ( I also noticed prior to my ownership (feb 10) that VW have changed mine in the past(not sure how long ago)).

Can I assume it is this which is at fault and change it without further investigation, or as I belive these can be expensive to replace are further diagnostics required?

Advice on where to get these would be great to although I expect they are a dealer only part.

I have a 06 plate 1.6 FSI saloon if this helps.
