Tyres and Rims

Hi All,

I am on the hunt for some new rims (alloys or steels) as I need a set of winter tyres following a move overseas.

My issue is there are SO many different sizes of Rim and Tyre and I have NO idea what I 'Can' put on?

Please help?

I have a 2006 2LTR Estate - it has 215/55/R16 at the moment.

Over here, they are going to run to around £600 just for tyres from the local shop (who know what they are doing) - I am looking on eBay and it seems you can get some good sets for around £300, however the sizes are slightly different and some are R17's - please help, its appreciated and you'll be saving me a fair chunk of cash - well maybe.

I have a Megane I have the same issues with too, currently has 205/55/R16 - seems to be loads of Scenic ones around - but I am not sure what (ET) means - its measures in MM and its looks like an offset dimension maybe?
