When to swap out your car

You know how it is, your car is a good few years old, mine s a B5.5 2001 1.9tdi 100bhp saloon with 115k showing.
It's probably not worth a massive amount, but a few jobs start to loom on the horizon. For me i will need to bung new discs and pads front & rear on the motor. The steering rack will likely need replacing soon due to a internal leak. The timing belt will be due again soon aswell.

Add up all these jobs and i'm probably looking near to a grand.

So the choices are spend the dosh and keep the car.

Don't do the work and p/ex it and spend a bit more than the 1k saved on not doing the work and hopefully get a newer model with less miles. I'm kind of assuming a half decent passat tdi could be had for £3k ish.

When do you guys decide enough is enough and time to move it along
