Brake pad warning light

My pads are fine but the other day my visual display flagged up CHECK PADS all fine but spotted the sensor wire had been cut in half....then this morning no warning at all...my question do they reset themselves?,i was going to join back together as it looks like thats whats been done before...if all ok will leave until im due some new ones..
