B5 B5.5 LOWERING ADVICE

Hi guys ive lowered my passat 1.9tdi 130 sport wagon on TA technic coilovers which is a hard bumpy ride, I dont really mind this but my wife says its not fair on the kids and cant be bothered getting my ear chewed off :-@ %-( . If i was to put my original shocks on but with lowered springs would this soften the ride? i wanna keep it low but want it nicer to drive. Any info or suggestions would be greatfully received?

Not going on air as i have my split on air so one is enough at the mo.
