Avoiding 6 speed gear box problems

Hi,

I've read a few posts now about the 6speed gearbox being a headache. The only problem is, is I have just bought a 53 plate130 6 speed. The car is mint with only 40 thousand on the clock with full vw history. I have had it for 3 weeks now and I still haven't got it on the road because I'm waiting to sell my current passat which has a 5 speed gearbox.
And before I do get it on the road is there any minor mods that I can do to avoid the gearbox problems.
Any help will be much appreciated.
