Ideas wanted - no brakes!

I was just out driving and my brakes completed packed in at the main city centre roundabout in Sheffield! completely $hit myself, but with enough pedal pushing it eventually stopped. It literally just went and the pedal went hard. Instinct made me think I'd somehow stalled it, but nope!

Just wondering if anyone else has had this and what you'd recommend checking? Its an 02 B5.5 130. I've managed to get home and have booked in with my local mechanic for tomorrow. I've checked all the various connections of all the vacuum hoses and all seems fine. Brake fluid's fine. Next obvious job is to check all the hoses for splits/holes I guess....but any other ideas welcome. Anyone know where the vacuum pump's located?
