Fitting Roof Bars to Carry a Mountain Bike

Hey guys

I've never owned a roof rack or bars before and rather than put a dirty bike in the car i'm considering getting roof bars to carry the bike instead.

Can those that own bars or go biking as well tell me how do the bars fit to a saloon? What do you clamp them to? I've no idea if i need something else as well as roof bars or anything?

Currently looking at roof bars for sale on ebay and need to know how easy/hard its going to be if i go down this route
