Rear Lower Shock Bolt - Access & Torqueing

Post by dickzooma »

Morning All,

As mentioned in a previous post i've had the joy of replacing most of the rear suspension components, and thanks VW for making this an incredibly challenging task for a DIYer working from home!!!

Anyway, one of the more challenging tasks seems to be gaining access to the lower suspension bolt to torque up to 180nm as you have to gain access via a gap in the coil spring and wondered if there are any tips for doing this? I have socket extensions and capable torque wrench and so far have only been able to get a 21mm ring spanner and through socket on the bolt head while maintaining a 383mm ride height which i'm sure is nowhere near the 180nm specified.

Any tips would be appreciated as this will complete the suspension job before it goes off to have the rear tracking done.

Thanks

Dick
