Emergency lock blade issue

Post by J1MMCD »

Hi all, new member looking for info from those in the know.

I have recently acquired a 2010 Highline B6 estate and knew it had a few things to do when I bought it.

I knew from having a ‘99 B5 saloon about the auto door lock if you use the key fob but don’t open the drivers door for (I think) about 40 seconds and you guessed it, locked my only key in the boot.

Anyway, £70 lighter I got a locksmith to open it and he basically used a jiggle/skeleton key and opened via the drivers door lock under the cap.

All well and good but I had tried my key blade in it and it locked it fine but wouldn’t open it.
I tried after he opened it and it worked ok.

I bought a couple of spare blades and got them cut earlier and tried them on the car. Both fit perfect and first attempt opened the car, but herein lies the rub. Since then I can’t get any of the emergency keys to open the car!

Seems to work now and again but is this common?
Is there a time period the key can’t be used within etc?

Or have I got a possible failing lock mech as although it appears not too expensive it’s apparently a nightmare to fit.

Thanks in advance!
