[FIXED] Gear changes feel extremely stiff after driving car for few minutes

Post by SteveForeMan »

Hii, have a 2010 passat, the lowest powered 2.0 tdi cr engine (110bhp!), the one with the 5 speed gearbox. Engine code CBDC.

After driving the car for a few minutes the gear changes become a lot stiffer. Moving around in neutral feels insanely stiff and difficult to put the car into 5th gear, and when putting it into reverse it can sort of get stuck.

There is no performance loss, weird smells, slipping, or anything like that. When driving during this period it can feel stiff to move around, but it has no issues getting into gear. Once it's in gear there's no performance loss, slipping, dodgy sound, or anything like that.

Any ideas? I'm absolutely lost outside of basic servicing and tires/brakes. https://i.imgur.com/39Bnrgh.png Noticed that I'm completely missing a bush, probably most/all of them are worn away. Something relating to that is causing it maybe? But I assumed it would be messed up all the time and not just when I drive it for more than 10 minutes.

EDIT: Issue Fixed. Figured I'd start taking stuff out to get at the linkages to see if they just need to be reset or what was up. The gear selector mechanism was corroded to *no swearing*, tried cleaning it like a youtube video showed and it was still dodgy. Replaced it and the gear changes is smooth as butter again.
