DSG not starting with brake pedal pressed

HI,

2009 2.0 tdi highline with DSG. I was having intermittant starting issues - car would turn over for a second but wouldnt start - i thought it was a battery issue - but have just put a new one in.

Usual DSG procedure - in park, EPB on, green foot on brake symbol on dash lit, push brake, green symbol goes out, push key in and turn over, no start. But when I don't put my foot on the brake, the car starts in a heart beat.

Drives and runs with no issues. Is this a sensor fault between the brake pedal and ignition / ecu ? or something else?
