Heater / Blower Problems

Post by kevcl15 »

Hi all,

Having problems with the heater / blower on my 2006 Passat estate.

The car has dual climate controls (climatronic?) and up until recently has been working fine. However, it's now developed a couple of strange faults that hopefully someone can help me with.

!. With the engine running and the climate control on ECON, the blower blows hot and cold air as normal.
2. If I then press the AUTO button (AUTO & ECON still on), the blower continues to work as normal.
3. If I then set the controls to only AUTO (aircon on), you can feel the temperature lowering as you would expect, with air being blown from the vents as normal.
4. However, after about 20-30 seconds, the tone of the blower changes and air stops coming out of the vents. You can hear the fan still blowing but no output through the vents.

If that wasn't enough, there's more..... :???: :???:

Sometimes, when selecting reverse (it's a DSG box), a similar thing happens. The tone of the blower changes and air stops being blown from the vents. Additionally, there's a "clicking" noise, as if a flap or diverter is being pushed passed a stop. (Did say it was strange....)

I've tried a local aircon specialist, he has suggested that it's more likely an electrical fault than an aircon failure. He has suggested that it could be a fault with a connector to the blower unit, below/behind the glove box, apparently there's a "common! fault with the earth wire burning out in this connector.

So, the question is, has anyone else had any similar faults in the past? Any tipe or things I can check (other than the connector) before throwing it at the dealers??

Any advice / tips greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Kev
