water pump failed

water pump failed
Hi my 56 plate 2.0 BMR engine has I think just blown the water pump. I had a low coolant alarm yesterday and I topped it up. I started it this morning and it has just died and won't start again. I strongly suspect the cam belt has jumped. Does this engine have any kind of protection for the valves or is my engine toast ? Really bloody annoyed as it has only just covered 140k this week and belts were n't due for quite a while ! Thanks in advance Jo.
